This month, I want to tell you about Curt and Joanne. This amazing couple I’ve been working with. I’m always grateful when someone wants to help rescue and/or foster a dog, but this goes above and beyond.

They're originally from Canada. Because of immigration, they had to leave their home in Florida, so they moved down to Ensenada with five dogs.

Now they have nine.

They've been busy rescuing dogs from the streets too.

Their first street rescue was Alfie. He was about two months old when they found him. Between the three of us we took care of him for over a year before he was finally adopted at fourteen months old.

These are the stories that keep us going.

Right now, they're fostering three big dogs that all need homes.

Laika was pulled from the streets so she wouldn't have any more puppies.

Taz came into rescue last December when he was only two months old.

Then there's Max—our million-dollar dog.

They found Max outside the Calimax supermarket after he'd been hit by a car. He had a broken leg that needed surgery. He also had Ehrlichia, so he went through doxycycline treatment.

Also I want to highlight this month’s bright spot - my champion case is Rosebud. She isn’t listed on the site yet becasuse she is still in recovery.

Rosebud came in from the streets with Paloma (featured above) when she was about six months old.

She had a broken leg, skin problems, eye infections—you name it.

Getting her healthy has been one of the best parts of my month.

Watching these dogs heal never gets old for me.

Lend a Paw - Donation Requests

Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported us over the past year. Your generosity helped cover the startup costs of establishing our stateside 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and thanks to you, our Oakland branch has officially completed its first year of growth and success. We truly couldn't have done it without you.

As we begin a new fiscal year at Travieso, we welcome additional donations to help keep things running. Donations are 100% tax-deductible, and every contribution—big or small—goes directly toward caring for the dogs.

For those who would like to provide ongoing support, we welcome recurring sponsorships of $25–$30 per week, or $100 per month. Consistent support helps us provide food, medical care, enrichment, transportation, and all of the daily necessities that keep the sanctuary running.

There are always things we seem to run out of, and this month our list is a little longer than usual.

We're looking for dog food, cat litter, hand sanitizer, disposable rubber gloves (Small and Medium), flea treatments, and flea collars. These are the supplies we go through every single day caring for the dogs.

We're also hoping to find large outdoor umbrellas, umbrella stands, shade cloths, or other materials that can help create more shaded areas around the sanctuary. Any extra protection from the sun makes life more comfortable for the dogs while they're waiting for their forever homes.

One thing that's especially helpful is flea prevention. The donated flea treatments don't just go to the sanctuary dogs—I also use them on dogs living on the streets and other rescue dogs who don't have anyone to provide that care.
